Key Players
If you’re a hopeless romantic, Zion Williamson (F, 13.0 cr) might be your guy this season. Since entering the NBA, he’s alternated years with under 30 games played with seasons over 60. He’ll be vital to the team’s overall performance, and finding defenders who can physically match up with him is no easy task. This really could be his year.
Possible Surprises
An intriguing player whom the Pelicans see more as a power forward than a center, Derik Queen (C, 8.0 cr) had a strong showing in the Summer League, averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds. He’ll start as Zion’s backup, but he’s comfortable playing the 5 as well and – if he can carve out minutes – he might take someone’s spot in the rotation.
Players to Avoid
Yves Missi (C, 9.0 cr) showed he belonged in his rookie year and made defensive and decision-making strides in Summer League, but his scoring still lags behind. With increased competition at his position and limited upside outside of special occasions, his current price makes him a rather risky investment.

It’s true that with both Zion and Murray on the floor, the Pelicans could contend for a playoff spot. But with Murray already ruled out for a significant stretch and Zion’s health as unpredictable as ever, they’re likely to find themselves outside the play-in picture once again. In the end, as we all know: availability is the best ability.
