Any doubt about Nikola Jokic’s future with the Denver Nuggets has already been erased. Despite a summer of upheaval – with Coach Malone leaving, GM Calvin Booth departing, and Michael Porter Jr. being traded – the three-time MVP has confirmed he’s not going anywhere.

My plan is to stay with the Nuggets for my entire career

Jokic won’t sign an extension this offseason, according to ESPN: he could currently secure a three-year, $200 million deal by October 20, but by waiting a year he could add a fourth year worth another $77 million. Meanwhile, he still has two guaranteed years plus a player option (2027-28) on the $276 million max contract he signed in 2022.

After their Game 7 loss to the Thunder, Denver made several moves: Porter was sent to Brooklyn for Cam Johnson, freeing up salary space. The rest was a mini-revolution: Malone, the only head coach Jokic had ever played under, departed after years of tension.

According to The Athletic, Jokic was also frustrated with Malone’s approach. With David Adelman promoted to head coach after a strong playoff run as interim (beating the Clippers and taking OKC to Game 7), the Nuggets are seeking stability.

The context remains ideal: Jokic just finished a historic season, becoming only the third NBA player to average a triple-double (29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists over 70 games). Jamal Murray, finally healthy, will further elevate the team.

During Media Day, Nikola Jokic displayed his classic sarcasm, reminding everyone that while basketball is important, it’s not the only thing in life.

Basketball is important, but there are other things in life that deserve attention. I love ice cream, but after 10 days of ice cream, you get tired of it

Long-term scenarios remain open, but Jokic’s impact is unquestionable. Staying in Denver for life: simple words that, after a turbulent summer, carry more weight than any contract signature.
