Chauncey Billups Arrested: Gambling Scandal Hits the NBA
The FBI has arrested Chauncey Billups, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, as part of a federal investigation into illegal gambling that has already involved Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier
Chauncey Billups, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, was arrested by the FBI for alleged involvement in an illegal gambling ring. The news, reported by ESPN, adds a new chapter to a scandal shaking the NBA following the arrests of Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier.
According to initial reports, Billups’ arrest is connected to the same federal investigation that has already uncovered an alleged system of illegal bets related to NBA games. The inquiry, conducted by the Eastern District of New York along with FBI Director Kash Patel, reportedly identified a network of people involved in match-fixing and illegal wagering.
Billups, an NBA legend and head of the Blazers since 2021, is said to have come under investigators’ scrutiny for alleged contacts with certain intermediaries in the group under investigation. It is not yet clear whether the charges involve his direct participation in manipulating game outcomes or are limited to instances of illegal betting.
The FBI press conference, expected in the coming hours, should clarify the extent of the charges and other names potentially implicated in the case.
