On the night Aaron Gordon wrote a new chapter in his personal history, Stephen Curry decided the show couldn’t end without him.

With 42 points, including 16 straight in the closing minutes, the Golden State Warriors star flipped a game that seemed firmly in the hands of the Denver Nuggets, leading his team to a 137–131 overtime win in a thrilling season opener.

Aaron Gordon played the best game of his career, finishing with 50 points and an incredible 10-for-11 from three-point range – tying the record for most threes made in an NBA season opener.

It was incredible. Whatever he did this summer, it worked

The Nuggets forward dominated for three and a half quarters, looking unstoppable from every spot on the floor.

They asked if I wanted the game ball, but no. I don’t want to take home a loss, even after a performance like that. It’s just the first game, but it stings

But, as so often happens, Curry crashed the party.

Down by seven with less than three minutes left, Curry sparked a personal comeback: two free throws, three straight three-pointers, and a burst of energy that reignited the Chase Center crowd. With 21 seconds on the clock and the Nuggets up 120–117, No. 30 used a pick-and-roll to shake free and drain the game-tying shot, sending the arena into chaos.

I just saw a little window. There was no room for doubt. Either I make it, or it’s over

Denver’s chance to win slipped away when Nikola Jokić missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer. In overtime, Curry added seven more points, while Al Horford and Jimmy Butler hit clutch threes to seal the victory.

Curry’s signature “night night” celebration put the exclamation point on a win that gives Golden State a 2-0 start to the season.
