Anthony Davis injury: “We’ll evaluate his condition”

Anthony Davis left the court in the first quarter against the Pacers due to a left leg injury. The Mavs won, but concern over the big man’s condition is real

It was a bittersweet night for the Dallas Mavericks, who defeated the Indiana Pacers 107–105 but had to deal with yet another physical setback for Anthony Davis. The Californian big man exited the game in the first quarter after sustaining an injury to the lower part of his left leg, as officially reported by the Texas franchise.

The incident occurred right after a basket: Davis began limping noticeably and immediately signaled to the bench that he needed to come out. During a timeout with just over four minutes remaining on the clock, he collapsed near the sideline before heading to the locker room for further evaluation.

He did not return to the game, with the Mavericks officially ruling him out at halftime.

Davis had already been listed as probable before the game due to bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, a chronic issue he has been dealing with for some time. His physical condition once again represents a crucial variable for Dallas, which acquired him as the centerpiece of the trade that sent Luka Doncic out of Texas.

The 32-year-old had played only nine regular season games last year, first sidelined by an abdominal injury and later by a groin strain suffered in his Mavericks debut, which forced him to miss another six weeks.

The win over Indiana helps keep morale high, but Davis’s early exit brings back old fears. Should the big man be forced to miss more time, Dallas’s already thin rotation could find itself in full emergency mode at the start of the season.
