Undefeated Spurs, Wembanyama: “This Is No Fluke”

Victor Wembanyama delivers another historic performance as San Antonio starts 5-0 for the first time in franchise history

Victor-Wembanyama

The San Antonio Spurs’ 50th NBA anniversary celebration couldn’t have gone any better. Once again, it was Victor Wembanyama leading the charge, putting up a monstrous 26 points, 18 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 blocks in a 107-101 win over the Miami Heat. For the first time ever, the Spurs have opened a season with five straight victories.

Facing a Miami team that entered San Antonio with the league’s top scoring average (131.5 points per game), head coach Mitch Johnson’s squad dictated the pace defensively, holding the Heat to their lowest point total of the season – including just 14 points in the third quarter.

This isn’t by chance. We’ve worked to get here. We started strong, and we need to keep it going as long as we can

According to ESPN Research, this marks Wembanyama’s third career game with at least 25 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 blocks – a feat only two legends in Spurs history have achieved more often: David Robinson (8 times) and Tim Duncan (6).

And there’s more. Since 1973-74, when blocks began being officially recorded, only Bob McAdoo had maintained averages of at least 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks over the first five games of a season.

After the game, coach Mitch Johnson praised Wembanyama’s endurance and mindset:

He played nearly 40 minutes at an incredibly high level in a very physical game. It’s not just talent – it’s dedication, focus, and toughness. That’s what makes Victor special

As the crowd stood chanting “Go Spurs Go” and teammates celebrated around him, Wembanyama waved with a wide smile. The message was unmistakable: San Antonio is back – and the future has already arrived.
