The Malik Beasley case has returned to the spotlight as the NBA continues to grapple with the growing issue of sports betting. Although recently cleared of any wrongdoing related to bets on other sports, the Detroit Pistons guard once again finds himself caught in the wider discussion shaking the league.

Beasley is reportedly still under NBA internal review for alleged irregularities involving prop bets during the 2023-24 season, and his name has surfaced in connection with an ongoing federal investigation into gambling in professional sports.

The player’s attorney, Steve Haney, clarified that Beasley’s recent distance from judicial developments should not be interpreted as cooperation with federal authorities, stressing that the athlete has no intention of participating in any ongoing investigation.

Malik has not cooperated, will not cooperate, and just wants to move on.

A firm stance that underscores his camp’s desire to separate Beasley’s image from the ongoing controversy.
The player himself – who had a strong season with Detroit last year, ranking second in the NBA for three-pointers made (319) – also took to Instagram to express his frustration.

I really just want to play basketball… no training camp to build chemistry after the season we just had, $42 million gone, my jersey number gone, defamation, a divorce, lost my shoe deal, and on top of that I can’t even explain anything yet…

On a personal level, Beasley shared how difficult it has been to keep his career on track amid public scrutiny and reputational fallout over the past few months.

If all this sounds like a list of excuses, IT’S NOT. I’m not gonna sit here and feel sorry for myself. S***, this has only made me stronger. So, all love. Head high — when the time comes, I’ll be ready.

Actually, Beasley’s future remains uncertain. After a $42 million extension with the Pistons fell through this offseason, no franchise has shown concrete interest, and his potential return to the court will likely depend on the outcome of the investigations and a final clarification of his status.

Until then, Beasley continues to train with one clear goal: to be ready when the next opportunity comes.
