The Ongoing Decline of the Eastern Conference: “No Real Title Contenders”

In the latest episode of his podcast, Draymond Green delivers a blunt verdict on the state of the East

Steve Kerr’s squad has started the season strong – four wins in their first five games, all against potential Western Conference playoff rivals: the Lakers, Nuggets, Grizzlies, and James Harden’s Clippers.

However, their most recent loss to a Giannis-less Bucks team left a bitter taste in the locker room. Kerr didn’t hide his frustration, pointing to his team’s lack of energy and focus as the main culprit.

Team leader and defensive anchor Draymond Green addressed the early stages of the season on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, sharing his thoughts on the competitive balance between conferences – and his bold predictions for the months ahead.

In the East, I don’t see a single team capable of competing for the title. Out West, it’s a completely different story. San Antonio has started well, but I think the real contenders are the Thunder, Warriors, and Nuggets. Don’t sleep on the two L.A. teams either – they’re serious threats. It’s going to be a bloodbath.

The four-time NBA champion went on to praise Stephen Curry, calling him one of the leading candidates for the MVP award:

I don’t think it’s ever happened before – and if I’m wrong, my apologies – but I don’t believe there’s ever been a 38-year-old MVP. And I think Steph Curry is going to fight to win it. We’re going to have a great season, he’s going to do what he does… Steph Curry will bring home his third MVP this year.

A team on a mission – overlooked by many, but fueled by hunger, pride, and belief. With a deep roster blending veterans and emerging talent, the Warriors seem determined to prove they’re still contenders.

And as Green’s words suggest, the old motto “Strength in Numbers” might just make a comeback for one last run in the Bay.
