Giannis and the Hero Bruise: “I Stopped a Robbery”
Even with a black eye after the loss to Sacramento, Giannis Antetokounmpo found a way to make everyone laugh – telling a hero story in pure Greek Freak fashion
After the Milwaukee Bucks’ 135–133 loss to the Sacramento Kings, Giannis Antetokounmpo showed up to the postgame press conference sporting a noticeable black eye.
Reporters, assuming it came from an in-game collision, immediately asked how he got it. Giannis’s answer? A story straight out of a movie… or a comedy sketch.
I was at Pick ’n Save, paying for my groceries, when I saw a guy trying to snatch a lady’s purse. I stopped him, but he turned around and accidentally hit me in the eye. Then I pinned him down, gave the purse back, and even paid for the lady’s groceries because she was in shock.

The press room burst out laughing. The Bucks’ social media team wasted no time posting the clip with the caption: “Your friendly neighborhood Giannis.”
Then I went home, treated it a bit, and took a nap.

Of course, no one knows whether the story is true or just another one of Giannis’s playful jokes. But that’s exactly what makes him special – he always finds a way to ease the tension with his genuine humor and easygoing personality.
Even after a tough loss to Sacramento – despite posting 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists – Giannis still managed to make everyone smile.
And that’s really his secret: on the court, he’s a giant; off it, he’s as humble and kind as ever. Even with a black eye, Giannis Antetokounmpo reminds us why he’s one of the most beloved players in the NBA.
