Scare for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: “My Family Is Safe”
A foiled burglary, no injuries, and deep gratitude – the Thunder star shares his relief after a frightening incident at home.
Moments of fear but, thankfully, no harm for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard confirmed that he and his loved ones are safe after an attempted break-in last week at his home in Nichols Hills, while the team was playing a home game against the Washington Wizards.
Long story short: everyone’s safe, and that’s all that really matters. Everything else can be fixed. My loved ones are okay – that’s enough to make me happy.

According to local police, officers arrived at the scene around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, but the suspects had already fled. No arrests have been made, and authorities have stated that there’s no ongoing threat to the community.
It’s unclear whether anyone was inside the house during the attempted break-in or if anything of value was taken. The case, however, adds to a worrying trend: a rise in targeted burglaries against professional athletes, often planned during game days when players are known to be away from home.
Similar incidents have recently affected stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow in the NFL, Luka Doncic in the NBA, and Evgeni Malkin in the NHL. Law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned leagues about these criminal groups, which specifically target athletes’ luxury properties.
For Shai, this frightening experience thankfully ended with nothing more than a scare. And as he calmly reminded everyone afterward: “Everything passes, but the safety of the people you love will always matter most”.
