Klay Thompson embraces the bench: “I’m going to do great things”

First time coming off the bench with the Mavericks for Klay Thompson, but the former Splash Brother isn’t discouraged: confidence, work, and the desire to reclaim the spotlight

A surprising move in Dallas. In the game against New Orleans, Jason Kidd decided to shake things up by bringing Klay Thompson off the bench for the first time since he joined the Mavericks – a choice meant to spark an offense that had recently lost consistency and flow.

Jason Kidd clarified in a recent interview that it’s not a permanent decision, but rather an experiment to rebalance the team’s offensive rhythm.

And Thompson, being the veteran he is, reacted in the most mature way possible.

I don’t care, I’ll play the same way. I’m going to do great things. I know they’re coming

Even off the bench, his contribution was solid: 11 points on 4/7 shooting, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in 21 minutes – in a game that stayed close until the end, with Dallas falling short by just two points against the Pelicans.

After a tough start to the season, the former Splash Brother admitted he struggled to find rhythm in the first few games, but now he feels back on track:

The first five games were tough – getting my legs and conditioning back. Now I feel like myself again. And when the shot starts to flow naturally from the wrist, you know great things are coming

At 35, Thompson is still adapting to a new environment, but his competitive fire remains intact. If his confidence soon translates onto the court, Dallas might just find the balance it needs to take the next step.
