GOAT, the film starring Stephen Curry: plot, cast and release date
In GOAT, Stephen Curry steps away from the hardwood to lead us into an animated adventure that celebrates the resilience of underdogs and the value of embracing one’s uniqueness
Stephen Curry is ready to debut in a role completely different from those that defined his time in the NBA. In February 2026, GOAT will hit theaters – an animated film produced by Sony Pictures Animation in collaboration with Unanimous Media: a story of sport, identity and courage set in a world entirely inhabited by talking animals.
The first trailer, released on July 30, confirms the project’s creative identity: a fast-paced action–comedy crafted by the same artists behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, known for their innovative, instantly recognizable visual style.
Plot of GOAT
The story revolves around Will, a goat determined to become a professional in roarball, a highly physical co-ed sport dominated by the fastest and most imposing creatures of the animal kingdom. He is voiced by Caleb McLaughlin, known from Stranger Things.
By his side is Lenny Williamson, a thoughtful and surprisingly athletic giraffe played by Stephen Curry. The dynamic between the two builds a narrative centered on trust, growth and self-determination.
Stephen Curry’s personal connection to GOAT
For Curry, the story isn’t just another professional endeavor.
I see myself in Will’s journey: being overlooked, underestimated, and finding strength in my individuality
Stephen Curry
It’s a parallel that closely mirrors the early stages of the Golden State Warriors star’s life in the league—often deemed too slight for the NBA, only to become a revolutionary force in the modern game.
He also emphasized the importance of community: “Nothing great is built alone,” a principle that has guided much of his success.
A star-studded voice cast
The production brings together a high-profile voice cast: Gabrielle Union, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, Nicola Coughlan, Jennifer Hudson, Patton Oswalt, Bobby Lee, Sherry Cola, Eduardo Franco, and even Ayesha Curry, who voices a supporting character.
A deliberately diverse lineup to bring a vibrant, personality-filled world to life.
Curry’s debut in voice acting
GOAT marks Curry’s first major voice role in a feature film. Despite lighter past appearances – brief cameos in Ballers and animated versions of himself in Family Guy and The Simpsons – the process surprised him:
Voice acting is physical. It’s not just talking into a microphone – you have to embody the character with your whole body
Stephen Curry
An intense yet exciting experience that Curry describes as “much more engaging than expected.”
When GOAT with Stephen Curry will be released
GOAT will arrive in theaters on February 13, 2026, positioning itself among next year’s most anticipated animated films.
Everyone will be able to see themselves in at least one character… and visually, we wanted to create a world people have never seen before
Stephen Curry
Along with its distinctive aesthetic and energetic comedic rhythm, the film delivers a universal message: believe in your own talent, even when others only see limits.
