Cunningham on the Pistons’ “crisis”: “We’ve been in worse situations”
Detroit falls again in Los Angeles: second straight loss against the Clippers. Cunningham stays level-headed-no panic.
Kawhi Leonard’s 55-point outburst proved decisive for the Pistons. The Clippers took care of business at home with a 112-99 win, extending their winning streak to four games, while Detroit suffered its second consecutive loss.
Cade Cunningham (27 points, 9 assists) is not overly concerned about the back-to-back defeats against the Jazz and Clippers. He knows he’s leading a team with a clear sense of direction.
We’ve already been at the bottom of the league. We know what it means to lose game after game, over and over again. We’re definitely not satisfied with these two games – they were both games we should have won.
Cade Cunningham
The Pistons have not lost more than two games in a row this season, and Cade has no intention of letting it go any further. During the 2023-24 regular season, Detroit found itself on the wrong side of history with 28 consecutive losses; today, the team sits at the top of the Eastern Conference, fully aware that it’s once again in a position to aim for something meaningful.
Two straight losses are still too small a sample to bring back the ghosts of the past. Against the Clippers, Cunningham struggled early: 0-for-4 from the field in the first six minutes, a few turnovers, and difficulty orchestrating the offense in the first half.
The Pistons’ MVP candidate needed time to find his rhythm, also due to Leonard’s elite defense, as the Clippers star delivered the first 50-point game of his career.
I’ve played plenty of games where I didn’t play well, but I knew my moment would come. I keep my faith in the Lord – that’s the most important thing – and I trust the work I’ve put in. I’ve worked too hard to let anyone take me out of the game. I knew I’d break through eventually.
Cade Cunningham
Cunningham speaks with the clarity of someone who has lived through far tougher stretches than the current one. And for those who experienced the Pistons’ most difficult seasons firsthand, that past now serves as motivation – a solid foundation to lean on, even when things get tough.
