Steph Curry: “The MVP chants? They give me energy”
On his final free throw, Nets fans chanted “MVP” for Curry, who finished with 27 points and hit the dagger three in the Warriors’ 120-107 win over Brooklyn
On the last free throw of the night, Brooklyn Nets fans broke into “MVP, MVP” chants, once again acknowledging the impact of Stephen Curry. It had already happened back in 2021, also at Barclays Center, and Steph’s reaction hasn’t changed since.
The smile on the Warriors guard’s face as he calmly knocked down the free throw – after scoring 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting – said more than any stat line ever could: the respect he’s earned on the floor, his ability to deliver in the biggest moments, and a leadership that goes beyond the final score.
I like it, I appreciate it. It adds excitement. It’s probably one of the few times I’ve heard MVP chants and then missed the last free throw. I got a little distracted, but I’m still grateful for it. It gives you energy, even on a back-to-back when it can be a little harder to find it.
Stephen Curry
After the disappointment of an overtime loss in Toronto less than 24 hours earlier – despite his 39-point performance – Curry responded against Brooklyn with a poised, controlled outing that allowed the Warriors to secure a 120-107 win and improve to 17-16 on the season.
He didn’t force the issue early, letting the flow of the game come to him. It was in the second half that he found his rhythm: ten points in the third quarter, quick ball movement, sharp drives, and constant pressure that forced the Nets’ defense to rotate, opening up space for teammates and follow-up attacks.
The defining moment came when Brooklyn cut the lead to four. Curry stayed ice-cold: he drew a foul on a floater, completed the three-point play, then calmly managed the offense down the stretch to close the game. He didn’t dominate all 48 minutes, but he controlled the moments that mattered. It was a performance built on balance, patience, precision, and leadership-proof of why, even on the road, his name still gets chanted like an MVP’s.
