Wembanyama injury, tests clear: “No ligament damage”

Scare, yes – consequences, no. An MRI has ruled out knee damage for Victor Wembanyama, who is now being handled with extreme caution by the Spurs’ staff. Precautionary shutdown and day-to-day evaluations

Good news out of San Antonio: Victor Wembanyama avoided serious consequences after the left knee injury he suffered in the win against the New York Knicks. Imaging tests carried out on Thursday ruled out ligament damage, confirming it was a simple hyperextension.

According to sources around the Spurs, the MRI came back negative, allowing the medical staff to breathe a first sigh of relief. Caution remains paramount, given the importance of the French center to the franchise’s long-term project.

When will Wembanyama return?

Wembanyama did not travel with the team for the road game in Indianapolis against the Pacers. The decision was made to take full advantage of the treatments available at the Victory Capital Performance Center, which is why he was officially ruled out for Friday’s game.

His status for the following matchup against Portland remains uncertain. Wembanyama is considered day-to-day and will be evaluated daily based on how his still-sore left knee responds.

His return will not be rushed: the priority is to have him back at 100%, avoiding setbacks that could jeopardize the rest of the season.
