Doncic Finds His Three-Point Shot Again: “I Have to Keep Working on It”

Luka’s smile says it all. After weeks of struggles from deep, Luka Doncic drills the decisive three-pointers against the Grizzlies, restoring confidence for the Lakers

When Luka Doncic gets into rhythm, stopping the Los Angeles Lakers becomes a serious problem. Memphis learned that lesson the hard way for the second time in just a few days, falling again in Sunday’s matchup at Crypto.com Arena.

The final score – 120-114 for the Lakers – only partially reflects the impact of No. 77, who delivered a complete performance and, above all, came through when it mattered most.

The former Mavericks star finished the night with 36 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Leadership numbers across the board, allowing Los Angeles to complete another significant comeback after Friday’s rally, when the Lakers erased a 16-point deficit.

The turning point came late in the fourth quarter: two consecutive three-pointers by Doncic extinguished any remaining hopes of a Grizzlies comeback and sealed the win.

The three-ball hasn’t been the hallmark of his season so far. Doncic is shooting 31.7% from beyond the arc, the second-lowest mark of his NBA career – and he hasn’t shied away from acknowledging it. That’s exactly why those two clutch makes carried special weight.

I was just smiling, I was happy. I made two threes in a row and I felt good. They were good shots – I just have to keep working on it every day in practice.

Against Memphis, he went 4-of-10 from three, an encouraging sign more mentally than statistically.

Beyond the buckets, Doncic highlighted two key aspects: improved defensive intensity after halftime and a growing chemistry with LeBron James, who posted 26 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists.

That’s how we need to close games. We were down a few points in the fourth quarter, then we flipped it. Me and Bron have to do this – close games.

There’s little time for the Lakers to savor the win. On Tuesday, they face the New Orleans Pelicans, another test to gauge how consistent this version of Los Angeles can be – especially if Doncic’s three-point shot continues to show signs of life.
