Anthony Davis Injury: “Left Hand Issue”

An injury to his hand sidelined Anthony Davis in the final moments of the fourth quarter against the Jazz: here are the latest updates

There was a grimace, then a gesture toward the bench, and finally he left the court. Anthony Davis’ night in Salt Lake City ended this way, in the most bitter way possible for a Mavericks team already patched up.

Dallas’ big man suffered a left-hand injury at the end of the 114-116 loss to Utah, leaving the arena doubled over in pain and with many unanswered questions.

The incident came at the most crucial moment of the game, during a Lauri Markkanen drive with just over two minutes remaining. Davis tried to grit his teeth, initially telling the staff he could continue, but the pain got the better of him. At 2:08 left on the clock, he gave in and did not return.

Jason Kidd, after the game, didn’t have much to say:

He injured his left hand. That’s what we know

Up to that point, AD had posted a double-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists in 35 minutes (numbers that could have fueled trade speculation, though the player himself has dismissed that), quietly leading a team that battles every night against absences and difficulties.

Now the Mavericks are crossing their fingers. With a 14-24 record and a season already uphill, the last thing they needed was another cloud hanging over the Texas sky.
