LeBron James’ message to the haters: “Only those who stood by me matter”
At 41 years old, LeBron James keeps dominating on the court and answers criticism by reminding everyone what truly matters to him
At 41, in his 23rd NBA season, LeBron James continues to defy time. Against Atlanta, he delivered yet another statement performance, leading the Lakers to a convincing 141-116 win with a stat line that says more than any debate ever could: 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists in just 32 minutes. Efficiency, control, leadership – everything needed to win.
And yet, even as LeBron keeps piling up numbers and victories, there are still voices questioning whether it’s time for him to step aside. Criticism about his effort, his motivation, even his usefulness – despite the fact that, by every metric, he’s still producing like a star. This season, he’s averaging 22.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.9 assists, without forcing the issue, without excess, simply choosing his moments to strike.
I just hope that when my career is over, I’ve left an impact on the people who follow me and watch my journey – the fans who have been with me for over 23 years, since I started this path as a high school freshman. That’s the only thing that matters. My people who stood by me – everything else doesn’t matter.

LeBron’s response to criticism was immediate – and powerful. He was then defended by JJ Redick, who, in the postgame, didn’t hide his disbelief at how a living legend – still so deeply invested in the game – continues to be treated.
I don’t take what LeBron does for granted… It’s really a shame how hard this guy works and how much he cares, considering the way some people talk about him. It’s absurd. Try being around him every day and see how much it truly matters to him. He’s on another level.

Meanwhile, the Lakers just keep moving forward. With a 24-14 record, they sit fifth in the West and firmly in the race that matters. And as long as LeBron James is on the floor – with this mindset and this heart – Los Angeles knows it has something no stat can fully capture: a living legend, still playing, still winning, and still enjoying the game. Even at 41.
