The Bucks’ season has taken another hit, as Giannis Antetokounmpo is still out with a right calf injury, and the team has yet to provide any timeline for his comeback.

After the 102-100 loss to the Denver Nuggets, the two-time MVP had already suggested that the calf issue could force him to miss 4–6 weeks.

A subsequent MRI confirmed a strain to the soleus or right calf, a diagnosis reiterated on Monday by head coach Doc Rivers, who nevertheless avoided giving any indication about a possible return date.

There really is no set date

Giannis had already missed eight games between December 5 and December 26 due to a similar issue with the right calf. In previous seasons, problems with his left calf had forced him to sit out the 2024 Playoffs and the 2025 All-Star Game.

Despite Antetokounmpo’s injury history, Rivers ruled out the idea of shutting him down for the rest of the season:

We haven’t thought about that. But again, there is no timetable for his return.

The Bucks, currently 18-26, have lost five of their last six games and sit 11th in the Eastern Conference, putting their streak of nine consecutive playoff appearances in serious danger. With Giannis on the floor, Milwaukee holds a 15-15 record; without him, that drops to 3-11.

To make matters worse, the Bucks have also played their last two games without Kevin Porter Jr., the team’s second-leading scorer, who is sidelined with an oblique strain. Rivers did not provide updates on his potential return either.
