Tatum Returns to Practice, but His Return Date Remains Uncertain

The Celtics are taking a cautious approach to Jayson Tatum’s recovery: Derrick White sees major progress, but a return before the end of the season is far from guaranteed

After suffering a serious injury last May, Jayson Tatum has gradually returned to on-court work following a long rehabilitation process. Everything is proceeding according to plan: in recent days, the Celtics star completed a 45-minute workout in front of reporters.

The session included both stationary and movement shooting drills, along with drives through contact, designed to assess the player’s level of explosiveness. Derrick White was impressed by the progress his teammate has made over the past few months:

He works hard every day, step by step, and he’s able to execute more and more movements.

Tatum has repeatedly stated his desire to return to the court this season; however, according to insider Chris Haynes, the former Duke star may be reconsidering that plan:

Everyone knew that after the Achilles injury Tatum would try to come back as soon as possible, but league sources have just informed me that Jayson is reassessing his situation and it’s not certain he’ll return before the end of the season.

Clearly, neither Tatum nor the Boston Celtics want to take unnecessary risks by rushing the timeline. The most realistic goal may now be entering next season at full strength.
