NBA All-Star Game: De’Aaron Fox Replaces Giannis Antetokounmpo
The NBA All-Star Game loses Giannis Antetokounmpo but welcomes De’Aaron Fox. The balance between Team USA and Team World shifts as well
The 2025 NBA All-Star Game will be without one of its most iconic figures. Giannis Antetokounmpo will not take the floor in Inglewood due to a right calf injury suffered during the Jan. 23 matchup against the Denver Nuggets.
Despite the injury, Antetokounmpo will not step away from the spotlight during All-Star Weekend. On Friday, he will be courtside as a coach for the All-Star Celebrity Game, alongside his brothers Thanasis and Alex, as well as MLB star Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Replacing the Greek superstar is De’Aaron Fox, who has been selected as an injury replacement for the All-Star Game roster. The San Antonio Spurs point guard will suit up for Team USA Stripes, capping off a season defined by elite consistency and impact.
The selection rewards not only Fox’s numbers, but also the leadership and weight he has carried in guiding his team – recognition that many insiders believed was overdue for weeks.
Team World Also Adjusted
Antetokounmpo’s absence has triggered a ripple effect in the team compositions. Norman Powell will move from Team USA Stripes to Team World, filling the roster spot vacated by the Bucks superstar. The adjustment preserves competitive balance and representation within the rosters, staying true to the international spirit of the event.
