Stephen Curry and the Return to the 3-Point Contest: “I’ll Be Back in 2027”

The most iconic shot of the modern era is ready to take center stage again. Stephen Curry announced that he will once again compete in the 3-Point Contest during the 2027 All-Star Weekend, which will be held in Phoenix. The announcement came live on TV, while the Golden State star was sidelined with a knee injury.

Curry’s Return: Chasing a Third 3-Point Title

The decision comes at a symbolic moment. Just hours earlier, Damian Lillard captured his third title in the competition in Los Angeles, joining an extremely exclusive club. A milestone that Curry could match in 2027.

Currently, No. 30 has won the 3-Point Contest in 2015 in New York City and in 2021 in Atlanta. A win in Phoenix would bring him to three trophies, further solidifying his legacy.

I’ll be back in the 3-Point Contest in 2027. And I’ll do everything I can to convince Klay to join me.

Not only that. Curry said he will try to convince his former teammate Klay Thompson – winner in 2016 in Toronto – to participate alongside him. The idea of a renewed “Splash Brothers” showdown adds a powerful narrative element from both an entertainment and media standpoint.

A Dominance That Goes Beyond the Contest

Talking about Curry in the 3-Point Contest means talking about consistency and numbers. He is the greatest three-point shooter in NBA history and has led the league in three-pointers made in eight different seasons.

This season, he is shooting 39.1% from beyond the arc – a percentage that, for many, would be outstanding; for him, it’s almost routine.

The question, then, isn’t just whether he can win. It’s whether, at 39 years old in 2027, he’ll still be able to turn a simple individual competition into a generational event.
