Not the Clippers: Chris Paul Chooses the Spurs – “Best Organization in the NBA”
Despite spending just one season in Texas, Chris Paul called the San Antonio Spurs the best organization of his NBA career, praising the group’s culture and mentality
Just a few days ago, after 21 seasons in the NBA, Chris Paul officially announced his retirement from professional basketball.
Over the course of his career, the former Clippers guard wore the jersey of seven different franchises. In a recent appearance, CP3 explained that he has no doubts about which organization stands above the rest in his experience.
During an appearance on “TheTyLilShow”, reflecting on the various stops in his journey, the Wake Forest product did not hesitate to define the San Antonio Spurs as:
The best organization I’ve ever played for.

Although he spent just one season in Texas – at 39 years old, no less – the former point guard’s words make clear the type of environment he found in San Antonio.
With a clearly defined veteran role tasked with guiding and helping develop young players like Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama, Paul identified the Spurs’ mentality as the ideal context to maximize his strengths.
Historically, the Spurs have stood out for a culture built over time, shaped by an iconic figure such as Gregg Popovich, who still represents the identity of the organization.
In an environment where work ethic, leadership and team basketball are central principles, Chris Paul fit seamlessly into the team’s structure, appearing in all 82 regular-season games – a milestone he had never reached before in his long NBA career.
In his 82 appearances with the Spurs, he averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists, shooting 42.7% from the field and 37.7% from three-point range.
Numbers far from the peaks he reached during his first stint with the Los Angeles Clippers, but enough to highlight consistency and impact at a different stage of his professional journey. A chapter that, for its context and meaning, will remain among the most appreciated of his long NBA story.
