NBA Europe Gets Snyder’s Endorsement: “A Fantastic Project”

The NBA Europe project continues to win over insiders: Quin Snyder has also expressed optimism about its potential

While in Europe the conversation around NBA Europe swings between enthusiasm and skepticism – particularly over the possible exclusion of historic markets and the disruption of decades-old competitive balances – in the United States the topic, though less polarizing, continues to draw interest from all corners of the NBA: executives, players and coaches alike.

Among them, the latest to weigh in is Quin Snyder, head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, whose optimism was clear when speaking to ClutchPoints:

It’s a fantastic project. The league is global and has players from all over the world: London, Paris, Berlin or beyond Europe – today, games could be played anywhere.

Up to that point, Snyder’s reflection seemed directed solely at the already established NBA Global Games initiative. But his subsequent remarks revealed a positive – and not so subtle – stance regarding the debated creation of a European franchise league.

We often hear stories of European players watching the NBA before coming here. I think more and more American kids are following and understanding international basketball.

For the former Utah Jazz head coach, further proof lies in the growing domestic interest in international competitions.

That increase showed during the last World Cup and the last Olympics. And the more the game expands internationally, the better it is for everyone in the NBA.

Expanding its boundaries to strengthen its brand and unlock new economic growth: for many NBA figures, this is less a gamble and more a formula for guaranteed success. If proven right, NBA Europe won’t simply be a milestone – it will mark the beginning of a new era.
