Mathurin Shines Against the Pacers: “A Scorer Like Kawhi Leonard”

First game against his former team and an immediate impact: Bennedict Mathurin leads the Clippers with 23 points against Indiana, confirming his growing role alongside Kawhi Leonard

First game against his past and an immediate impact. Bennedict Mathurin had a special night at the Intuit Dome, facing the Indiana Pacers for the first time since the February trade.

The result was clear: a 130-107 victory for the Los Angeles Clippers, highlighted by a strong performance from the Canadian wing.

I had a great time there for three and a half years. There’s no bad blood on either side. It’s really just love

In a game controlled by the Clippers, Mathurin once again showed he can be far more than just an offensive rotation piece, making a decisive contribution alongside superstar Kawhi Leonard.

In just 22 minutes on the floor, Mathurin filled the stat sheet with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block, showing efficiency and versatility on both ends of the court.

His impact was also evident in the advanced numbers: with a +32 plus/minus, he led the team in that category.

More and more often in the Clippers’ rotations, Mathurin appears to be taking on the role of the team’s second offensive option, almost a “Robin” next to Leonard’s “Batman”.

Rick Carlisle praises Mathurin

Despite the loss, Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle, who coached him in Indiana, spoke highly of the Canadian guard after the game.

This is a perfect situation for him. He’s an NBA scorer, how many times do I have to say it? It’s like he was born with 20 points already in the box score. I mean it as a compliment: he scores with incredible ease. The Clippers have another scorer like Kawhi Leonard. For them, it’s a fantastic duo

The feeling is that the Clippers have found another weapon in Mathurin. If he keeps this up, Leonard may finally have a reliable offensive partner.
