Injuries and Passive Play Slow Down the 76ers, Nurse: “We’re Passive”
The Philadelphia 76ers continue to struggle with injuries and inconsistent results, with Tyrese Maxey emerging as the only real certainty in a difficult season
The Philadelphia 76ers’ season has been a constant rollercoaster due to inconsistent performances and key injuries that have prevented the team from developing proper chemistry. In the loss against the San Antonio Spurs, rookie VJ Edgecombe was added to the list of unavailable players after being forced out at halftime.
The main issues for Philadelphia have been related to their two stars: Joel Embiid is once again sidelined with another injury, while Paul George is still serving his suspension.
Tyrese Maxey has been leading the team throughout this troubled season, but his numbers alone aren’t enough if the supporting cast fails to provide proper help, as shown in the disappointing performance against San Antonio.
Head coach Nick Nurse also expressed concern about his team’s attitude against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.
We weren’t as quick in our execution as we were in the last game, and in situations like these you have to stay patient. Unfortunately several shots didn’t fall and they scored a lot in transition. Defensively we were awful… we were very passive
Nick Nurse
It’s clear that without their stars, the 76ers can’t go far. Maxey is trying to do everything he can, but the team must respond if it wants to become competitive again. The road to the NBA Playoffs is still long, but a spark of character needs to arrive immediately.
