Communication Issues Inside the Houston Rockets Locker Room

Kevin Durant and Ime Udoka pointed to poor communication as a key factor in the loss to the Golden State Warriors

After two consecutive losses to the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, the Golden State Warriors, still without Stephen Curry, returned to the win column last night on the tough floor of the Houston Rockets.

Steve Kerr’s team secured a 115-113 overtime victory, prompting serious reflection within the Rockets’ camp.

Houston head coach Ime Udoka and Kevin Durant, who still delivered a solid performance with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, were among those who addressed the defeat.

What both emphasized was a lack of communication between players, which they identified as the main reason behind the Texans’ loss.

Not communicating, not being physical on the ball… These are things we should have addressed at the beginning of this season, last year, or even earlier. We missed some shots and turned the ball over a bit too much, but the lack of communication remains the main culprit

Kevin Durant also commented on the defeat against his former team, highlighting the importance of communication between players and coaching staff:

Our communication isn’t bad, but it can definitely improve, especially against teams like this that move a lot and play a lot without the ball. We need to communicate more, use our bench better and take a step forward. I’m not saying we don’t communicate at all, but we can definitely do better

With this defeat, the Houston Rockets lose ground in the race for third place in the Western Conference, currently held by the Minnesota Timberwolves. For Durant and his teammates, working on these details will be essential in order to be ready for the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
