Steve Kerr Reaches 600 Wins: “I’ve Been Lucky”

A key win for the Golden State Warriors and a historic milestone for Steve Kerr, who now joins the exclusive group of the NBA’s winningest coaches

It was an important night in Washington for the Golden State Warriors, who returned to winning ways and helped Steve Kerr reach a historic milestone: 600 career wins as an NBA head coach. A prestigious achievement, though it came after a difficult stretch.

The Warriors snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating the Washington Wizards 125-117. It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it was enough to get back on track.

It wasn’t a great game, but we needed a win and we were solid enough to get it

Steve Kerr among the fastest to 600 wins

What makes the milestone even more significant is the speed at which it was achieved: Kerr reached 600 wins in just 943 regular season games.

Ahead of him on the all-time list are only three legendary coaches:

  • Phil Jackson (805 games)
  • Pat Riley (832 games)
  • Gregg Popovich (887 games)

An elite group that Kerr now joins with humility.

It’s surreal to hear my name next to those coaches, but there’s one thing we all have in common: talent. Without great players, you don’t win in this league, and I’ve been lucky since day one

A double milestone: 600 wins as a player too

What’s even more impressive is his overall NBA career résumé. Kerr had already recorded 601 wins as a player, becoming just the second person in NBA history to surpass 600 wins both as a player and as a coach, after Don Nelson.

A recognition that highlights his total impact on the game, first on the court and now on the sidelines.

Warriors shorthanded but still in the play-in race

The victory comes at a delicate point in the season. The Warriors are dealing with the absences of Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler III, both sidelined with injuries, while remaining fully engaged in the Western Conference play-in race.

Against Washington, however, they welcomed back two key pieces in Draymond Green and Kristaps Porzingis, with the latter delivering a standout performance of 30 points, matching his season high.

He’s an incredible talent. And it kind of feels like a Porzingis reunion tour – we’re playing all of his former teams on this trip. It’s pretty crazy

No over-the-top celebration, just a brief moment to catch their breath. Because right now, Golden State has other priorities: keep winning and hold onto a position that could define their season.
