Cade Cunningham sidelined: “Collapsed lung”

A major blow for the Detroit Pistons: Cade Cunningham is out with a collapsed lung. An MVP-caliber season interrupted, and the race for the top seed now at risk

Terrible news for the Detroit Pistons, who will be without Cade Cunningham for the remainder of the regular season due to a collapsed lung, likely suffered during the game against Washington, which the Pistons star left after just five minutes.

Recovery timelines remain unclear: according to Shams Charania, Cunningham is expected to be sidelined “for an extended period”, although there is some optimism about having him available for the start of the NBA playoffs.

Cade Cunningham was putting together a spectacular season: 24.5 points and 9.9 assists per game, leading Detroit to the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Numbers that had placed him firmly in the NBA MVP race, but with only 61 games played, he would not be eligible for the award.

Now, with 14 games left to play and a three-win cushion over the Boston Celtics, the Detroit Pistons will have to dig deep and try to hold onto the top seed without their leader.
