NBA rescinds Doncic’s technical, Skip Bayless: “Ridiculous!”

NBA and the Doncic case: the rescinding of his 16th technical foul sparks debate over star treatment. Los Angeles breathes a sigh of relief, but controversy keeps growing

Some call it charisma, others call it privilege. For analyst Skip Bayless, the NBA’s latest decision in the Luka Doncic case is nothing more than a “ridiculous favor” to protect TV ratings.

The rescinding of the technical foul that would have sidelined the Slovenian star has reignited a long-standing debate: do superstars really play under a different set of rules? While the Los Angeles Lakers can breathe a sigh of relief, the rest of the league is watching with skepticism.

Skip Bayless’ criticism

It all started with an exchange between Doncic and Orlando Magic center Goga Bitadze during the Lakers’ latest win. The Slovenian had been assessed his 16th technical foul of the season – a threshold that triggers an automatic one-game suspension. However, in a surprising move, the NBA rescinded the call, making Luka available for the matchup against the Detroit Pistons.

Rescinded? Ridiculous. Clearly the league doesn’t want to lose its main attraction and allows anyone to argue every call

A delicate balance heading into the playoffs

Despite the “lifeline,” Doncic, who is firmly in the MVP race, remains in a risky position. With an incredible average of 33.4 points and over 8 assists per game, he is the engine of the Lakers. Losing him now, with the team surging toward the playoffs (46-25 record), would be a major blow.

Still, the rules are clear: Luka is now just one technical foul away from suspension. Many analysts are already suggesting a strategic move – since suspensions do not carry over into the playoffs, the Lakers might “use up” that technical in a less critical game. That way, they could reset his count and avoid unpleasant surprises when the stakes are at their highest.
