Doncic and Reaves Set the Goal: Return for the NBA Playoffs
Amid injuries and makeshift rotations, Los Angeles Lakers try to hold on: the goal is to get Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves back as soon as possible
The Los Angeles Lakers suddenly find themselves dealing with a complicated scenario at the most critical point of the season. With injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves and constantly improvised rotations, the final stretch of the regular season has turned into a race against time.
Redick defends decisions: “They were cleared to play”
There has been no shortage of controversy surrounding injury management, especially for keeping Doncic and Reaves on the floor despite a large deficit in the previous game.
JJ Redick responded firmly:
They were both cleared to play. There was nothing suggesting any imminent risk

Doncic heads to Europe
The most significant update concerns Luka Doncic, who has decided to travel to Europe to undergo specific treatment following a second-degree strain of his left hamstring. The decision came after discussions between the Lakers’ medical staff and his personal team.
According to his agent, Bill Duffy, the standard recovery timeline for this type of injury is around a month. But the goal is clear: return in time for the NBA playoffs.
A goal also shared by Austin Reaves, who is sidelined with a second-degree strain of his oblique muscles, with an estimated recovery time between four and six weeks.
In a recent interview, JJ Redick was direct:
Both will try to come back. Our job is to extend the season long enough to allow that

Full-blown emergency: Lakers forced to reinvent themselves
In the meantime, the Los Angeles Lakers have had to deal with a full-scale emergency. After a heavy loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, they also fell to the Dallas Mavericks (134-128), in a game marked by completely unprecedented rotations.
The starting lineup – featuring LeBron James, Luke Kennard, Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura, and Jake LaRavia – had never played together before. The same goes for the alternative lineups used throughout the game.
Despite everything, there were some positive signs:
- LeBron James finished with 30 points, 15 assists, and 9 rebounds
- Luke Kennard recorded the first triple-double of his career
- Jaxson Hayes provided energy off the bench with 23 points
Still, defense remains the real issue.
To play the way we want, everything starts with defense

Playoff push: a race against time
Despite the difficult stretch, the Lakers (50-28) remain in third place in the Western Conference, ahead of the Denver Nuggets thanks to the tiebreaker. With four games left to play, the team is guaranteed not to fall below fifth place.
Their next matchup will once again be against Oklahoma City, in a game that will say a lot about the mental toughness of a group forced to reinvent itself.
