Zion Williamson’s Promise: “This Summer Will Be Different”
After years marked by injuries and disappointment, Zion is raising the bar: he wants to play a full season and finally lead New Orleans to the playoffs
After seven seasons without ever playing in an NBA playoff game, Zion Williamson has reached a breaking point. The New Orleans Pelicans star is not hiding his frustration and is already looking ahead: a major change is needed, both on and off the court.
A Solid Season, But Not Good Enough
From a physical standpoint, something has changed. Williamson showed greater consistency, staying on the floor more regularly than in previous years. He averaged 21 points per game while maintaining strong offensive efficiency.
Still, the overall outcome remains disappointing:
- 22 wins in the 62 games he played
- Team finished with a 26-56 record
- No qualification even for the Western Conference play-in
My season was okay, but we can’t say it was good if we didn’t even make the play-in. This summer will be different… I want to attack from more areas of the floor and become less predictable. I didn’t do that enough this year

Injury Concerns: Encouraging Signs
One of the biggest storylines remains his health. Since his rookie season, Williamson has missed 280 of 556 games because of various injuries, particularly hamstring issues.
This season, however, showed real progress:
- 35 consecutive games played (career high)
- Second-best season of his career in total appearances

Despite trade rumors, Williamson made his stance clear: he wants to stay.

Playoffs Are the Only Acceptable Goal
The next step is clear and non-negotiable:
- Play 75 to 82 games
- Lead the Pelicans to the playoffs
- Learn from champions and Hall of Famers to improve
