The Los Angeles Lakers continue chasing their playoff dream without one of their most important players. Luka Doncic, sidelined since early April with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, still has no certainty on his recovery timeline and spoke openly about how frustrating the process has been.

Speaking publicly for the first time since suffering the injury against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Slovenian star explained how difficult it is to experience the playoffs away from the court.

It’s really frustrating. I think people don’t understand how much it is. I just want to play basketball, especially at this time of year

Doncic also said he is proud of what the team has accomplished, eliminating the Houston Rockets in the first round despite his absence.

Watching what the team is doing makes me proud. But sitting and watching is really hard

Lakers, Doncic proceeding carefully

The injury suffered on April 2 interrupted what was becoming an MVP-level season in his first full year with the Lakers. Doncic revealed that doctors initially told him to expect roughly eight weeks on the sidelines.

It has now been five weeks since the injury, but No. 77 does not want to take any risks. He has started running and gradually ramping up workouts, though he still has not done any contact work.

I’m doing everything possible. Day by day I feel better

Luka Doncic

Doncic knows this type of injury well. In the past, he returned too early from similar setbacks, and this time he wants to avoid making the situation worse.

In the past I came back too early from injuries and it didn’t go well. You have to be very careful

Treatment in Spain and PRP therapy

To speed up the recovery, Doncic also traveled to Spain shortly after the injury. There, he underwent PRP therapy, platelet-rich plasma injections.

I went to Spain to do PRP. Everybody knows they’re among the best there for this kind of treatment

The former Mavs star said he underwent four injections, spaced four days apart, which is why he remained overseas longer than expected.

LeBron James highlights the impact of the absence

Despite the Lakers’ strong playoff run, Doncic’s absence has been significant, especially against a disciplined team like OKC. After the Game 1 loss to the Thunder, LeBron James also pointed out how much the team misses a star capable of drawing defensive attention.

The Lakers hope to get him back soon, but there is still no confirmed date. Doncic continues his rehab without forcing the issue, with the goal of returning only when he is truly ready.
