News of Brandon Clarke’s death left the NBA world stunned. The Memphis Grizzlies big man was found dead inside a Los Angeles home on Monday at just 29 years old. According to TMZ, Clarke had been scheduled to appear before an Arkansas judge on May 15, just days after his death. The player had reportedly been involved in a criminal case stemming from a traffic stop in April.

The accusations against him were serious. Authorities claimed illegal substances were found during the stop, including kratom, a pain-relief substance widely used in the United States but surrounded by controversy. Clarke had reportedly been charged with trafficking controlled substances, as well as fleeing at high speed after allegedly attempting to evade police during the pursuit.
