Turner reveals the Bucks’ issues: “Giannis showed up whenever he wanted”
Heavy behind-the-scenes details are emerging from the Milwaukee Bucks’ disappointing season, including constant lateness, a lack of internal discipline, and loose enforcement of team rules
The disastrous season of the Milwaukee Bucks continues to spark controversy even after Doc Rivers’ departure. Adding fuel to the fire was Myles Turner, who spoke on the “Game Recognize Game” podcast with Breanna Stewart about what he described as a lack of discipline within the organization during last season in Milwaukee.
The former Indiana Pacers center, who joined the Bucks last summer on a four-year deal worth more than $108 million, did not hide his surprise at the team’s internal management under Rivers.
There were guys constantly late. Some showed up to film sessions whenever they wanted, others skipped meetings entirely. It was one of the craziest situations I’ve ever experienced in my career
Myles Turner
When Stewart asked him who was most frequently late, Turner had no hesitation in naming Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Giannis. Giannis showed up whenever he wanted. Once I understood how things worked, I thought: ‘Good for you. They’re not going to fine you anyway, so do whatever you want’
Myles Turner
According to the former Texas Longhorns product, the absence of rules became so obvious that it even changed the team’s travel habits.
It was crazy – people would show up to the plane an hour late. At some point I realized there was no reason to arrive at the scheduled time. You could just get there an hour later
Myles Turner
Turner’s comments confirm the difficult environment inside Milwaukee during a season that ended with a disappointing 32-50 record, snapping the franchise’s streak of nine consecutive playoff appearances.
The Bucks center also emphasized how every other organization he has played for had a clear disciplinary structure in place.
Every other franchise I’ve been with had fines for being late. Late to the plane? Fine. Late to treatment? Fine. Late to film sessions? Fine. Last year, though, I never saw anything like that
Myles Turner
In short, chaos seemed to be the rule rather than the exception in Milwaukee. Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo’s future remains increasingly uncertain: between incoming offers and personal reflection, the idea of a split after more than a decade no longer feels so far-fetched.
