New York dreams of an NBA Title, Brunson and the “Mamba Mentality”

The New York Knicks are back in the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden for the first time in 27 years, but Jalen Brunson is doing his best to keep the excitement in check

The anticipation surrounding Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs has turned New York into a full-blown media spectacle. Celebrities, lifelong fans, and soaring ticket prices are all signs of how intensely the city is embracing this moment.

Among those in attendance ahead of the game were rappers Jadakiss and Fat Joe, as well as actor Ben Stiller, who has become a regular courtside presence throughout the Knicks’ playoff run. The atmosphere promises to be electric, but not everyone will get to experience it in person.

A lot of people have been waiting for this moment for years, and unfortunately they can’t get into the arena when the cheapest ticket costs seven or eight thousand dollars. It’s crazy. It’s going to be an incredible environment, but I wish the prices were more affordable

While excitement is building around the team, Jalen Brunson has chosen a different path: complete focus. The former Maverick understands that a 2-0 series lead is far from a championship guarantee.

We were up 14 points and they came back and even took the lead. That shows how good they are

The Knicks won Game 2 by a score of 105-104 in a tightly contested battle, becoming just the third team in NBA history to win the first two Finals games on the road. It’s a significant accomplishment, but Brunson has no interest in celebrating early.

The “Mamba Mentality” and personal growth

The Knicks’ leader was also asked about his connection to Kobe Bryant’s famous “Mamba Mentality,” which Brunson became familiar with during his high school years. His response was straightforward: his mindset comes first and foremost from the way he was raised.

The way I carry myself and do things comes from how my parents raised me. Part of their philosophy overlaps with the Mamba Mentality, so there’s definitely a connection

Brunson explained that he always tries to stay present, preparing himself mentally and physically every day while trusting the work he has put in.

Only one goal matters

Despite the energy surrounding New York and the chance to move closer to the franchise’s first NBA title since 1973, Brunson continues to repeat the same message: no reflections until the job is finished.

I’m not going to think about any of that until it’s over

Jalen Brunson

In a New York already dreaming about a championship, the Knicks’ leader is trying to keep everyone grounded. And perhaps that is his most important play before the opening tip of Game 3.
