Jaylen Brown on the Knicks’ title: “The stars aligned”
Jaylen Brown isn’t hiding after the Knicks’ championship run: praise for New York, but the message is clear – Boston plans to come back stronger next season
The celebration that erupted inside Madison Square Garden after New York’s 94-90 Game 5 victory highlighted a historic trend that perfectly captures the NBA’s current era of parity: the Knicks became the eighth different team to win a championship in the last eight seasons.
A level of competitive balance that has effectively ended the dynasty era and, inevitably, fueled the ambitions of every contender left on the outside looking in. The first player to throw down the gauntlet to the newly crowned champions was Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown, speaking during one of his Twitch streams.
Boston’s No. 7 first paid respect to his longtime Atlantic Division rivals, acknowledging the accomplishment of a dominant playoff run that ended with a convincing 4-1 series win over the Spurs:
The stars aligned. That’s exactly what it takes to win a championship: you have to stay healthy, you have to be good, and you need that little bit of luck and favor from the basketball gods. So once again, hats off to the Knicks

The praise, however, quickly gave way to the mindset of a player whose season came to an abrupt and painful end with a first-round playoff exit. Brown immediately shifted his focus forward, sending a clear message to the rest of the league ahead of next season:
This season is over. Now it’s time to get back in the car and prepare for the next one. It’s everybody’s game again – we’re all back to 0-0. I’m extremely motivated to improve. A lot of people think they’ve already seen the best version of me. Well, they couldn’t be more wrong

Brown’s comments sound like a promise of revenge from a Boston team that experienced a season of highs and lows. Despite significant challenges, the Celtics still posted an impressive 56-26 regular-season record, led by Brown’s outstanding production: 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 47.7% from the field. Those numbers earned him a sixth-place finish in the MVP race and a spot on the All-NBA Second Team.
I feel like I’m entering the peak of my physical and mental maturity, and my weaknesses are becoming strengths. You still haven’t seen the real Jaylen Brown. I can’t wait for next season to start. We’ll see where the chips fall, but I’m ready

And yet, the disappointment of Boston’s playoff collapse could still have major implications for the franchise’s future. Behind Brown’s words of loyalty and determination lies the biggest question hanging over the Celtics’ offseason: the trade rumors.
The five-time All-Star has emerged as a central figure in speculation surrounding a blockbuster deal that would bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to Boston, although the Miami Heat remain involved in the conversation as well.
The Celtics’ front office now faces a dramatic crossroads: double down on the competitive fire of its franchise cornerstone, or pull the trigger on the trade of the year. The chase for the champion Knicks has officially begun, and the coming weeks of the offseason may determine which jersey Jaylen Brown will be wearing when that pursuit starts.
