LeBron James on retirement: “It could be 24, 25 or 26 seasons”
Amid ongoing speculation about his future, LeBron James also addressed the topic of retirement, explaining that he still hasn’t set a timeline for when he’ll walk away from basketball
For several weeks now, LeBron James has kept the basketball world on edge as uncertainty continues to surround his free agency.
One thing, however, is certain: his chapter with the Los Angeles Lakers has officially come to an end. Although his agent, Rich Paul, has narrowed the list of franchises genuinely in the running to sign him, it remains unclear where the four-time NBA champion will play next.
James himself revisited the subject during a conversation with Boardroom co-founder Rich Kleiman at the 2026 Game Plan Summit, explaining that he has not set a specific deadline for making his decision.
During the interview – which also covered his investments, family, relationship with Nike, and passion for golf – the Akron native also spoke casually about retirement from basketball, saying:
When I’m done, will it be 24 years? 25 years? 26 years? Who knows? We’ll see when I’m finished…
