When LeBron saved the NBA season: Anthony Davis tells the story

Anthony Davis reveals a behind-the-scenes story from the 2020 NBA Bubble: when players discussed shutting down the season, LeBron James’ position proved decisive

Six years later, new behind-the-scenes details continue to emerge from the 2020 NBA Bubble. This time, Anthony Davis has shared a particularly interesting story, revealing just how much weight LeBron James’ voice carried during one of the most delicate moments of the Orlando experience.

While at Disney World, players seriously considered the possibility of ending the NBA season for good. According to Davis, a meeting was organized with representatives from the teams in the Bubble to decide together what to do.

Formally, it was supposed to be a vote. In practice, however, AD says everyone was waiting to hear one opinion: LeBron’s.

We really had a meeting and some guys started asking, ‘What do we want to do? Do we want to shut everything down?’ Everybody was looking at LeBron. We were all in the room and CJ McCollum was running the meeting. They kept asking what we wanted to do, then Bron said we were going to stay. At that point, nobody else’s vote mattered anymore

The quote captures just how much influence LeBron James had in the NBA at that moment. His position, at least according to Davis’ account, ultimately steered the entire group toward continuing the season.
