A night to celebrate the past and a few moves to start thinking about the future. Amar’e Stoudemire, Mike D’Antoni and Doc Rivers are officially in the Basketball Hall of Fame, Minnesota has finally decided when it will raise Kevin Garnett’s No. 21 to the rafters, LeBron James launches his official YouTube channel, and the NBA offseason continues to move along, even in the middle of August.

Stoudemire and D’Antoni enter the Hall of Fame together

Springfield hosted the ceremony for the Hall of Fame Class of 2026, a particularly notable class featuring Amar’e Stoudemire, Mike D’Antoni, Doc Rivers, Candace Parker, Elena Delle Donne, Chamique Holdsclaw, Mark Few, Joey Crawford and the 1996 U.S. women’s national team.

For anyone who grew up watching NBA basketball in the 2000s, it’s hard not to focus on Stoudemire and D’Antoni entering in the same year. The Phoenix Suns built around Amar’e, Steve Nash and D’Antoni’s system never won a championship, but they left an enormous mark on the league. Pace, pick-and-rolls, open-floor basketball and the desire to attack before the defense could get set: many things that seem normal today were far less common back then.

Stoudemire closes a journey that began straight out of high school and continued for 14 NBA seasons, with Phoenix as his primary home and New York as the second major stop of his career. D’Antoni enters as a contributor, a fitting recognition for a coach whose influence on modern basketball goes far beyond wins and losses.

Kevin Garnett, finally seeing no. 21 go to the rafters

Staying with the legends, the Minnesota Timberwolves have announced that they will retire Kevin Garnett’s No. 21 on Feb. 28, 2027. And the choice of opponent could hardly be more fitting: the Boston Celtics will visit Target Center.

Minnesota represents virtually all of KG’s first basketball life, while Boston is where he finally won his championship. Garnett will become the second player in franchise history to have his number retired and, above all, this finally closes a chapter that has remained open for quite some time between the Wolves legend and his former team. It will be one of the most emotional nights of the entire Regular Season.

LeBron lands on YouTube: the first video is already a hit

LeBron James has launched his official YouTube channel, choosing golf as his starting point. The first video, running more than an hour and a half, chronicles the reunion trip to Scotland with several members of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers championship team, including Kevin Love, J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson.

The project is expected to showcase LeBron primarily on and around the world of golf, from games and practice sessions to more personal moments. The debut immediately drew significant attention and once again confirms how James continues to expand his presence beyond the basketball court.

Bradley Beal gives it another shot with the Clippers

Meanwhile, Bradley Beal will remain with the Los Angeles Clippers. The three-time All-Star signed a two-year, $13.2 million contract with a player option for the second season after considering other options in free agency.

At this point, the equation for Beal is very simple: he needs to stay on the court. He played just six games last season while recovering from hip issues, so it’s nearly impossible to assess his actual impact on the Clippers today. At 33, he no longer needs to prove that he can score; he needs to prove he can do it consistently again.

Between the Hall of Fame, retired jerseys, LeBron James landing on YouTube and the ongoing offseason moves, we certainly have something to talk about today as well. And slowly, we’re getting closer to the moment when we’ll stop talking about schedules, signings and ceremonies and finally get back to the thing we care about most: basketball being played.
