NBA 2K27: Wembanyama on the cover – “He deserves it!”
NBA 2K27 has chosen Victor Wembanyama for its cover. A decision that doesn’t surprise Stephon Castle, who praised the French star’s importance
The run to the 2026 NBA Finals established the San Antonio Spurs as one of the most fascinating teams in basketball. Alongside phenom Victor Wembanyama, a monumental Stephon Castle played a major role in that rise: after averaging 16.7 points and 7.4 assists in his sophomore season, numbers that increased to 18.2 points per game in the playoffs, the young guard has firmly established himself as one of the cornerstones of San Antonio’s future.
Speaking to Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints during the NBA 2K27 Community Day in Los Angeles, Castle discussed everything from his love of gaming to the historic cover featuring his teammate Wembanyama (who recently went head-to-head with Jokic with their national teams).
Wemby being on the cover speaks for itself. It says everything about the season he had, the type of player he is and the trajectory he’s on. Without him, we never would have gotten where we got this year. It’s a well-deserved recognition, and I definitely don’t think it’ll be his last cover

The ’90s dream and his growth in the video game
Asked about the new features in NBA 2K27, particularly the introduction of different Eras in MyCareer, Castle admitted that he would love to experience the physicality of basketball from the past:
I’d like to play in the ’90s era. The game is so different today. It would be really cool to see how I’d fare in those types of games and against that kind of physical style

Now rated 87 overall heading into his third NBA season, Castle also joked that his friends won’t let him use the Spurs in home games because the team is simply too good. A small but telling sign of how much San Antonio’s stock is rising – both on the real court and in the virtual world.
