NBA 2026-2027 Calendar
Here is the NBA schedule for the 2026/27 season
The 2026-27 NBA regular season starts on October 20 and ends on April 11, fitting 1,230 games into just under six months. NBA Cup games, international trips, back-to-backs and the trade deadline break that span into very different stretches, and for fantasy players, the value of a given week can change quickly.
Opening week is where preseason assumptions start getting tested against actual minutes and rotations. December still contains two games per team that depend on NBA Cup results. February brings another reshuffle around the trade deadline before April compresses playoff races into the final few dates.
October gives fantasy managers their first real clues
Opening Night on October 20 starts with Celtics-Pistons before Philadelphia visits the defending champion Knicks and Oklahoma City meets San Antonio. New York will raise its first championship banner since 1973 before facing a 76ers team reshaped around LeBron James and Jaylen Brown.
Once games count, minutes show who has actually won a rotation battle, which offseason arrivals immediately receive touches and which bench players have moved closer to fantasy relevance. Roles that looked straightforward in preseason can change within a week.
The 2026-27 NBA schedule and key dates provide a useful overview of the major stretches ahead. The league has also reduced some of the scheduling pressure around them. Teams will average 14.2 back-to-backs, the lowest figure since the NBA Cup was introduced, and no team is scheduled for more than 16. There are also no instances of four games in five nights. Rest nights will not disappear, but there are fewer extreme stretches built into the calendar.
The NBA Cup makes November harder to plan
The fourth NBA Cup begins on October 30, with group play running through November 27. Quarterfinals follow on December 4 and 5, the semifinals on December 8 and/or 9 and the championship game lands on December 11 in Indianapolis.
The unusual part is that two games on every team’s schedule are still unresolved. Only 80 of each team’s 82 regular-season games are assigned in advance. The other two are placed between December 4 and 10 according to group-stage results. A fantasy calendar that looks complete in October therefore still has two blank spaces per team.
The NBA Cup group-stage schedule matters for more than qualification itself. Results alter December’s opponents and dates, so anyone looking several scoring periods ahead has to leave some room for the bracket to settle.
The middle of the season rewards schedule reading
From Christmas onward, marquee games arrive quickly, but the useful part of the schedule is often the spacing between them. Travel, short turnarounds and rotation changes can matter just as much as the opponent printed next to a date.
Several points break up the middle of the calendar:
- December 25: five-game Christmas Day slate
- January 14: Spurs vs. Pelicans in Paris
- January 17: Spurs vs. Pelicans in Manchester
- January 26-30: NBA Rivals Week
- February 11: NBA trade deadline
- February 19-21: All-Star Weekend in Phoenix
The Paris-Manchester pairing is particularly unusual. San Antonio and New Orleans play twice in Europe in four days, with the Manchester meeting becoming the first NBA regular-season game staged in the city.
The February 11 trade deadline can change player value overnight. A low-usage reserve may suddenly become a starter, while an established player can arrive in a rotation where fewer touches are available. For fantasy managers, the important part is usually what happens to minutes and opportunity after the transaction rather than the name attached to the trade.
The standings change what fans are tracking
By January, the standings make the same dates look different. NBA Cup qualification has been settled, conference races are taking shape and the gap between a top-six seed and the Play-In becomes easier to measure.
Season-long NBA outcomes also appear on prediction markets alongside conventional sportsbook markets. Covers is a sports-betting information publisher covering operators, offers and prediction markets, and its guide to the fanatics markets promo for new users explains how the introductory offer works, who is eligible and where Fanatics Markets is available. April is where the schedule stops being theoretical
The regular season ends on April 11, with all 30 teams playing on the same day. The Play-In follows from April 13-16.
By then, an ordinary-looking matchup from the August schedule release may decide a seed, a Play-In place or whether a regular starter gets 36 minutes instead of 26. Coaches managing postseason position can alter rotations quickly, while teams already locked into place approach the final week very differently from those still chasing one. That uncertainty can make the final scoring periods especially volatile.
On April 11, some teams will still be chasing a seed, others will already be managing minutes and several may have their season riding on one final game.
