Luka Doncic Ready for an MVP-Caliber Season

Luka Doncic, expected to arrive in Los Angeles on September 20, has worked extremely hard this offseason: weighing around 105 kg (231 lbs) and in physical condition he hasn’t reached in years

Luka Doncic is preparing to report to the Lakers’ training camp in a significantly different shape than what we’ve seen from him in recent seasons. The Slovenian star used the summer to get himself completely back into shape, focusing primarily on his physical conditioning, with the results already appearing evident just weeks before his return to the court.

According to Martin Pavcic of Sports Club, once his injury issues were behind him, Doncic significantly ramped up his workload, going through an intense conditioning program alongside Anze Macek, his longtime personal trainer, who has worked with him for years, first in Dallas and then in Los Angeles.

The main goal was to fully recover from all the injuries and then complete the physical preparation. Anze Macek, Luka’s personal trainer for years and someone who has been by his side first in Dallas and then in Los Angeles, once again played a central role. The Lakers star hasn’t been physically prepared at this level in a long time. His weight is also within the desired range, unofficially around 105 kilograms

Doncic is reportedly around 105 kg (231 lbs). He has looked noticeably leaner than in previous seasons, leading many to believe he is in the best physical shape of his NBA career. The next step will be his return to the United States: his individual training program will conclude on September 20, while the Lakers’ Media Day and the start of training camp are scheduled for September 28 and 29, respectively.

The weight loss is the most obvious sign of the work Doncic has put in this summer, but it is probably not the most important one. The Lakers don’t simply need a lighter Doncic; they need a Doncic who can reach April in the best possible condition. And that is ultimately what his season will hinge on.
