GTA VI will “ruin” the NBA: Steven Adams’ theory
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on November 19, and Steven Adams already has a prediction: the level of the NBA and other sports leagues is destined to drop
The real NBA problem in November 2026? Not injuries, back-to-backs or the first signs of a midseason slump. According to Steven Adams, it will be GTA VI.
During the Houston Rockets’ Media Day, the New Zealand center delivered one of the funniest moments of the day, predicting a sudden drop in performance not only in the NBA, but in virtually all of American sports when the new Grand Theft Auto installment comes out (where you’ll also be able to play basketball).
With GTA VI expected on November 19, Adams has already warned everyone: for a few weeks, players, coaches and even scouts could have their minds somewhere else entirely.
I’ll tell you one thing: prepare yourselves for November. The performance of the league, in general… GTA is coming out. Watch the NFL, watch all the leagues and you’ll see the level drop, man

Adams: “By December, things should be back to normal”
Adams is obviously joking, but he took his theory all the way. According to the Rockets big man, the “problem” should only last a few weeks, at least assuming everyone can finish the game quickly enough.
Only for November will the performances drop. Then they should go back up, most of the guys should be able to finish it. Hopefully they complete the game

And don’t think the prediction only applies to those on the court. Adams also included coaches and scouts, who he believes risk being just as distracted as the players.

A clearly tongue-in-cheek prediction, but one that also shows how much gaming has become part of everyday life for so many NBA players. And GTA VI isn’t exactly an ordinary release: more than 13 years will have passed since GTA V came out, with the game becoming one of the most popular video games of all time in the years since.
Adams already seems to have marked a date on his calendar. From November 19 onward, if an NBA game suddenly looks a little worse, he already has an explanation.
And if the level really does improve again in December, we’ll know why: someone will have finally finished GTA VI.
