The Golden State Warriors’ preseason began with a 104-101 loss to the Clippers, but after the game, part of the fans’ attention shifted to Draymond Green.

The discussion started with a video of the veteran speaking to reporters after the game. On social media, several fans commented on his physical appearance, arguing that Green did not report to training camp in the best shape.

It’s crazy that Draymond showed up to camp in that shape

There was no shortage of harsher criticism either, with some fans also bringing up his salary and his preparation for the new season.

Paying a professional athlete $27 million when he has absolutely no desire to stay even remotely in shape is truly insane

Another comment focused above all on the veteran’s responsibilities:

It is absolutely unacceptable to be in this kind of physical condition when you are a world-class athlete making $30 million a year. Too many people depend on your performance. Draymond already starts at a disadvantage because he isn’t the most talented; now age is a factor too, and he can’t afford to waste time

At 36 years old, Green remains an important piece for the Warriors because of his defense, communication and playmaking. Steve Kerr, however, is asking him this season to increase his three-point attempts and leave more playmaking responsibility to players such as Podziemski and Lendeborg.
