Porzingis out indefinitely: “I don’t have HIV”

The Warriors will have to continue without Porzingis, who has not been cleared to practice. The Latvian explains how he is feeling and what concerns him

The Latvian’s absence began even before Training Camp. Kristaps Porzingis had contacted general manager Mike Dunleavy to say that he would not be joining the team, subsequently missing the trip to Hawaii and the first five Preseason games.

On Tuesday, while the Warriors were in Las Vegas facing the Lakers, the center returned to Golden State’s facility in San Francisco to meet with Dunleavy and Rick Celebrini, the head of the medical staff.

The details of the meeting will remain private, as the franchise announced, and it will provide updates only when there are concrete developments regarding his ability to resume practicing and his recovery timeline.

Porzingis, meanwhile, did not hide how difficult it has been to deal with these issues.

Hey everyone, I’m working with doctors and specialists to figure out how to get back to full health as soon as possible. Honestly, I’m feeling better and better. I just need to be patient, and I’m convinced I’ll be feeling really good again soon

Back when he was with the Boston Celtics two seasons ago, Porzingis had contracted a respiratory infection that, as the player later explained, continued to affect his physical condition.

It’s definitely been frustrating dealing with health issues when you can’t pinpoint exactly what’s causing them, especially after all the injuries I’ve had throughout my career. Over time, all of that has taken a toll, but we’ll get through it. Health is the most important thing. Thanks to everyone for the support

Porzingis then responded with a touch of irony to the many theories circulating on social media about his health problems, dismissing some rumors and asking people to avoid making amateur diagnoses.

I appreciate all the internet doctors trying to diagnose me and help me out, but I’m in the best hands. So now you can all relax! And no, I don’t have HIV or AIDS

Last season was complicated as well: just 34 games played, split between the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors, who acquired him in February by trading Jonathan Kuminga.

Despite everything, the franchise decided to bring him back this summer on a two-year, $40 million contract, with only $3 million guaranteed of the $20 million scheduled for the second season.
