Doncic left out of the MVP race, Redick: “Let’s wait 50 games”

Luka Doncic is not among the main favorites for the 2027 NBA MVP, but JJ Redick does not seem concerned. The Lakers coach has his own rule

Luka Doncic left out of the main favorites for the 2027 NBA MVP? JJ Redick, at least for now, could not care less. The Los Angeles Lakers coach has a very specific rule when it comes to the most important individual award of the season, and he has no intention of changing it.

During the Lakers’ latest practice, Redick was asked about the results of the annual survey of NBA general managers, which has Victor Wembanyama leading the MVP race, followed by Nikola Jokic and Anthony Edwards.

Doncic is not among the most-voted names, and neither is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, winner of the last two editions of the award.

A ranking that could spark debate, but not for Redick.

I’m sticking to the same rule I had when I worked in the media. I don’t want to talk about MVP until at least 50 games of the season have been played

JJ Redick

The coach’s position is pretty clear: making MVP predictions before the Regular Season has even started does not mean much, especially considering how much things can change over the course of an NBA season.
