Warriors collapse, Steph Curry: “Everything went wrong”

A 12-point lead, four minutes to play and a loss. Everything unraveled for the Warriors against Memphis. Curry and Kerr didn’t take it well

The Golden State Warriors appeared to have the game in hand, leading by 12 with fewer than four minutes remaining. Instead, they suffered a tough loss in front of their home crowd: 111-108 to the Memphis Grizzlies, who completely turned the game around down the stretch.

The collapse left a bitter taste for Stephen Curry, but especially Steve Kerr, who didn’t hold back afterward in criticizing the officials for several decisions in crucial moments.

Steve Kerr blasts the officials

What particularly infuriated the Warriors coach was an offensive foul called on Draymond Green in the closing seconds.

The call proved significant because Curry had made a shot on the play that would have put Golden State ahead, with Memphis leading by two.

Kerr made no secret of his disbelief over the call, accusing the Grizzlies’ players of exaggerating contact on screens.

I was shocked by that call. But, once again, there was so much flopping. Every time someone ran into a screen, their players fell to the floor, and the officials fell for it

Curry: “Everything went wrong down the stretch”

While Kerr focused primarily on the officiating, Stephen Curry chose to break down what went wrong in the final minutes.

The Warriors’ No. 30 led the team with 24 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds, but struggled with his shot, finishing 5-for-15 from the field and 3-for-10 from three.

We missed a lot of shots. For most of the game, we managed our possessions pretty well, except for the last three minutes. The ball seemed to keep bouncing their way, there were a couple of tough calls and some offensive rebounds we gave up. Pretty much everything went wrong

Stephen Curry

Having controlled the game for so long makes the loss even harder to accept.

It’s tough to swallow, especially considering how well we played, particularly in the second half. We built a lead and had control of the game for a long time. That’s why it hurts even more

Golden State thus suffers its second loss in its first two games of the season, with plenty of regrets over the opportunities it gave the opposition.

Curry likely to rest against the Phoenix Suns

The Warriors won’t have much time to process the loss, with a road game against the Phoenix Suns immediately up next on the second night of a back-to-back.

And they may have to face that challenge without their most important player.

Asked about the possibility of playing against Phoenix, Curry responded:

Probably not, but I’ll talk to the medical staff

Two games, two losses and a win that slipped away in the final minutes. Not exactly the start Kerr and his players had envisioned.
