Nikola Jokic posts triple-double, calls out fans: “Don’t come back”

Russell Westbrook’s record is getting closer. Jokic records his 199th triple-double and gets a few things off his chest after the game

Another triple-double, an overtime win and a pretty clear message to Denver’s fans. Nikola Jokic once again took center stage in the Nuggets’ 141-135 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, a game that delivered entertainment, some tense moments and another step toward NBA history.

The Serbian star finished with 35 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals, shooting 12-for-23 from the field. Those numbers move him even closer to Russell Westbrook, the current leader in regular-season triple-doubles in NBA history.

Jokic chases Westbrook’s record

With his triple-double against New Orleans, Jokic reaches 199 for his career, moving within ten of Russell Westbrook’s 209.

A mark that seemed difficult to reach just a few seasons ago could now change hands during the 2026/27 season.

Jokic has already surpassed Westbrook in the combined total that includes the playoffs, but the official regular-season record still belongs to the former MVP.

Given how consistently the Nuggets center piles up points, rebounds and assists, it feels like overtaking him is now only a matter of time.

Jokic responds to the boos: “We never gave up”

The win over the Pelicans was anything but easy. Denver had to play from behind, grind it out and go all the way to overtime to beat its opponent.

During the game, some home fans also voiced their displeasure with boos. It was a reaction Jokic didn’t particularly appreciate.

It’s the first home game, and I think those fans who booed us shouldn’t come back to the arena

The Serbian star then pointed to one of the qualities he believes defines this team.

If you really follow us, you know we never give up

Jokic also tried to explain why Denver took so long to find its footing, admitting he didn’t have a precise answer.

You just can’t get anything going. They’re making shots, and you keep missing. There was a negative energy, and it took a few minutes to shake it off

It was a difficult situation to navigate, especially in front of their home crowd, but the Nuggets managed to turn it around and secure the overtime win.

For Jokic, meanwhile, the countdown continues: ten triple-doubles to tie Westbrook, eleven to take sole possession of the regular-season record.
