NBA Christmas Day Special, Pippen and his game of the record
Re-experience the incredible Pippen’s game on 1994 Christmas Day against Ewing’s Knicks
If we think about a phenomenal player such as Scottie Pippen, a lot of performance to remember come to mind right away. Among them, there is one more immediate than the others: December 25th, 1994, Christmas Day, Chicago Bulls versus New York Knicks.
The United Center, in the windy city, was sold out. The two most popular franchises were facing: the Bulls, reigning champions but without Jordan (who had announced his first retirement), versus Patrick Ewing‘s Knicks.
The latter showed off and scored 30 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals that allow his team to try to win until the end.
“To try”. Because, on the opposide side, Scottie Pippen decided to dominate the match: he played all 53 minutes (included an OT in which he scored all the 7 points for his team), and ended with 36 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals (in addition to 2 crucial blocks during the final minutes).
Bulls won the game 107 to 104, but the season was not so satisfying: they concluded it “only” in the Semifinals of the Conference, defeated by Shaq’s Magic (which, in return, were defeated in the Finals by Houston Rockets). However, Scottie’s Christmas game against the Knicks will remain listed in the annals of the basketball forever.
